    → Soaked Overnight. Gahat Or Kulath.
  • Onion [ प्याज़ ], 1 Piece
    → Finely Chopped.
  • Tomato [ टमाटर ], 2 Pieces
    → Finely Chopped.
  • Garlic Cloves [ लहसुन की पुठ्ठी ], 2-3 Pieces
    → Minced.
  • Ginger [ अदरक ], 1 Piece
    → Grated. 1 Inch.
  • Green Chili [ हरी मिर्च ], 1 Piece
    → Finely Chopped. Optional.
  • Cumin Seeds [ जीरा ], 1 Tablespoon
  • Turmeric Powder [ हल्दी चूर्ण ], 1 Tablespoon
  • Red Chili Powder [ लाल मिर्च चूर्ण ], 1 Tablespoon
    → Adjust To Taste.
  • Salt [ नमक ], As desired
  • Coriander Leaves [ धनिया पत्ता ], A few Grams
    → Fresh. To Be Used For Garnishing.
  • Lemon [ नींबू ], 1 Piece
    → Cut Into Wedges.


Method for preparing Gahat Soup

  • Pour out the soaked horse gram and rinse it with fresh water.
  • In a large pot or pressure cooker, add horse gram and 4 cups of water.
  • Cook the horse gram until it becomes soft and mushy by either simmering it in a pot or pressure cooking it for 4-5 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a separate pan and add cumin seeds.. Give them room to splutter.
  • Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili (if using). Fry the onions until they turn golden brown.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt together. Cook until the tomatoes have turned soft and mushy.
