Chamoli

Chamoli is a district of Uttarakhand state in India. Its northern boundary is the Tibetan Plateau, while its eastern, southern, western, and northernmost boundaries are the Uttarakhand districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar, Almora, Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi. The district’s administrative centre is at Gopeshwar. There were several pilgrimage and tourism places in Chamoli. To mention a few, there is Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, and Auli. Hindu Tibetans of the Bhotiya ethnic group make up most of the population in the district.

History

According to several historians and scientists, the Aryan race originated in this region. Khasa is thought to have invaded Garhwal in approximately 300 B.C. via Kashmir, Nepal, and Kuman. Due to this invasion, there was a growing hostility between the foreigners and the locals. The Indians constructed miniature forts known as “Garhi” for their security. Later, Khasa completely vanquished the natives and took control of the forts.

After Khasa conquered this territory, Kshatiya overthrew them and established their rule. They only allowed fifty-two Garhi of the hundreds of Garhi that the Garhwal had. Kartikeypur Vashudev Katyuri was the founder of the Katyura dynasty in Garhwal, and they ruled the region for hundreds of years during this period of Katyuri rule. One Kantura Vashudev General of the Kshatriya caste established his regime on the northern border of Garhwal and founded his capital in joshimath. One of the four renowned Peeths founded by Aadi-Guru Sankaracharya, Jyotrimath, was founded during his journey to Garhwal. Dwarika, Puri, and Sringeri are some of the other cities in India Varsh.

How To Reach

By Road:
Almora is linked by motorable roads to major cities in the north of India. If you’re in Delhi, you can board a bus to Kathgodam or Almora from ISBT Anand Vihar. There are plenty of taxis in the Kumaon region that will take you to Almora. The journey from Delhi to Almora is 365kms if Moradabad and Bilaspur are used as the route. A 9-10 hour stretch is enough to get across this distance.

By Air
The Pantnagar Airport, known for its prestigious university focused on agriculture, is the closest to Almora, a distance of 127 KMs.

By Train :
Kathgodam, situated 90 KMs from here, is the nearest railway station. Kathgodam has a direct rail connection to Delhi, the capital of India, Lucknow, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Dehradun the capital of the state of Uttarakhand and Calcutta.

Uttarakhand is divided into two divisions: Garhwal and Kumaon. Uttarakhand state is made up of 13 districts, seven of which, Dehradun, Haridwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and Pauri Garhwal, are a part of the Garhwal division. Almora, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar and Champawat are all part of the Kumaon division.
