Badrinath
Badrinath, also called the Abode Of Lord Vishnu, is one of the main among Panch Badri. It is situated in Himalayas on the banks of the Alaknanda river in Chamoli District. The town lies between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges and in the shadow of Nilkantha Peak. The route to Badarinath is one of the most fascinating one due to the lofty hilly terrain, curves and cliffs amidst the most scenically beautiful place on the earth.
Throughout the route to Badarinath, there are numerous pilgrimage sites at Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karana Prayag, Nanda Prayag, and Vishnuprayag; as well as Pandukeswar, where king Pandu observed Tapasya with his queen Madri and where his sons Pandavas stayed during their pilgrimage to heaven, and the site where Bhima and Hanuman (sons of Vayu) met.
Badri means “berries” and nath means “Lord Vishnu”. It is said that Goddess Lakshmi took the form of berries to protect Lord Vishnu from a harsh climate during his penance. The image of Badarinarayan here is fashioned out of Saligramam. Badarinarayan is seen under the Badri tree, flanked by Kuber and Garuda, Narad, Narayan and Nar. Mahalakshmi has a sanctum outside in the parikrma. There is also a shrine to Adi Sankara in Badarinath.

Origin
It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya discovered a black stone image of Lord Badrinarayan in the Alaknanda river and he enshrined it in nearby Taptkund (hot springs), which was later moved to the present temple by the King of Garhwal.

How To Reach
To get to Panch Badri, take National Highway 58 from Rishikesh. It’s located approximately 425 kilometers away from Delhi and 270 kilometers away from Rishikesh. You may be able to locate regular bus services from Delhi to either Rishikesh or Haridwar, and from there you can rent a personal taxi to get to Panch Badri.
The most common way to get to Panch Badri is to take a taxi from Haridwar to Karnaprayag. Make your way through Joshimath and Badrinath along the Mana road to get to Panch Badri.By Train:
Board a train from Delhi to either Haridwar or Dehradun. Take public transport or taxi to reach Joshimath. The journey to Panch Badri starts in Gamshal, a village close to Joshimath.By Air:
The nearest airport to Panch Badri is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is 227 km away. A prepaid taxi can be arranged from here to take you to your desired location.
Lord Badrinath is worshipped in Badrinath temple along with four lesser badri temples under five different names. The names of these individuals are Adi Badri, Badrinath, Bhavishya Badri, Vridh Badri, and Yogdhyan Badri.
Adi Badri
Adi Badri is a part of Uttarakhand’s well-known Panch Badri. It’s a collection of sixteen temples from the Gupta era that make up this structure (5th century to 8th century).

Bhavishya Badri
Bhavishya Badri is located in the dense forests that surround Tapovan. It is about 17 kilometres east of Joshimath on the Joshimath-Lata-Malari highway. To visit Bhavishya Badri, pilgrims must hike up the Dhauliganga River from Tapovan. Here is where Narsimha, the god with a lion’s head, is worshipped.
Vridha Badri
Vridha Badri is located in Animath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is a shrine devoted to Lord Vishnu and is located 7 kilometres from Joshimath on the Joshimath-Badrinath road and is 1,380 metres above sea level.
Yogdhyan Badri
Yogdhyan Badri temple is situated in Pandukeshwar at a height of 1920 metres. Here, the idol that represents the Lord in a meditation pose is worshipped, hence this place is called ‘Yogdhyan badri’.
